Ceramics and Printmaking

Sawpit studios is the collaboration between Joey Burns and Helen Daley. Joey Burns is a potter who makes wood fired, functional tableware. His pots are inspired by the natural environment. Helen Daley creates handmade collagraph prints. Helens works are whimsical narratives in which she draws quilts, figures and landscapes.

Sawpit Studios is a printmaking and pottery studio based in Gundaroo. Helen Daley and Joey Burns started the space in 2013.

Joey Burns has been involved with ceramics for more than 20 years. First training in production pottery, he then chose to study and focus on Wood-Fired ceramics. He received his Diploma Of Ceramics from Northern Beaches TAFE Sydney. Joey has also worked as a ceramics technical assistant/manager at both Ernabella Art Centre and Canberra Potters Society. Teaching regular classes at Canberra Potters, Joey also teaches workshops specialising in wheel throwing and wood-firing kilns. He has been a guest artist at the Taoxichuan Autumn Art Fair, in Jingdezhen China on multiple occasions. Joey currently works from his studio creating work for exhibitions, markets and restaurants.

Helen studied at COFA completing her Bachelor of fine arts with honours in 2010. She has continued her practice through Sawpit studios, Creating work for exhibitions and markets. Helen has also began teaching Collagraph workshops at Megalo print studio.
