Phoebe Porter combines geometric abstraction, bold colour and unexpected asymmetry to create contemporary jewellery that resonates with influences of the Bauhaus and Russian Constructivism. Trained in gold and silver smithing, Phoebe successfully combines industrial materials and processes with precious elements using refined hand-making skills and a design language gained over more than twenty five years of practice.
Phoebe has exhibited extensively across Australia as well as in Japan, Germany, the UK and the USA and her work has been acquired for a number of public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia and the Powerhouse Museum. Her awards include a Victorian Premier’s Design Mark, grants from the Australia Council and Arts ACT and Design Canberra Festival Designer-in-Residence.
After almost a decade honing her craft in Melbourne, Phoebe moved back to her hometown of Canberra in 2014 and now works from a beautiful heritage studio at Gorman Arts Centre.
