Jann Kesby Ceramics
Ceramics | Home and Living
With 45 years of experience, Jann's woodfired pieces have a functional emphasis while remaining organic and spontaneous - reflecting a 'less is more' approach, celebrating the sensuality and movement of clay.
Working mainly on a kick wheel for her thrown pieces, and handbuilding with clay bodies enriched with local decomposed granite, Jann builds layers that expose the raw interior of the clay body. These techniques, combined with feldspathic glazes or leaving surfaces unglazed to go through a wood firing, result in pieces that are as organic as they are refined.
Each work often undergoes multiple firings in her catenary arch and anagama wood kilns, building depth and complexity into surfaces that speak of process, place and time.
